Getting First 2 Galileo FOC Satellites to Work

The first 2 FOC satellites ended after a launch failure in an elliptical orbit. For 2 weeks Galileo operation’s team is maneuvering the satellites into higher orbits. The target is getting the satellites into a more circular orbit with the limited fuel supplies. After these maneuvers testing of full technical functionality of both satellites can start in December. The maneuvers are still an attempt of getting the best out of the current situation and making use of the objects which cost the European taxpayer more than 150 Mio $. A complete recovery of the satellites and a seamless integration into the final constellation is not possible.

Because of the failure during launch of the two satellites the schedule of next satellites have been postponed. A decision for the next launch is due in mid of December.
